Truffle Capital, an investor in Symetis, is a European private equity firm originally set up for investments in spin-offs from companies active in the IT, Energy, and Life Sciences sectors.
-
Symetis, set up in January 2001, as a spin-off from the University of Zurich, is a medical technology company focused on a cardiac valve replacement project.
-
The trans-apical cardiac valve replacement program aims at the valve replacement market which is today a $1 billion market and growing. While all valves are currently implanted via open-heart surgery, the trans-apical approach with Symetis stent valve aims at placing the valve into the aorta via minimally invasive surgery and a beating heart.
-
Following a €1.93 million investment by Truffle Capital since 2004, the company’s objective is to bring this concept to the clinic within 24 months, seek a CE mark and position the company for a trade sale to one of the main cardio-vascular industry players.
